Error code BSOD involving Asus, AMD and nightmares fuel.
Experiencing quite a few annoying problems with my setup and hoping for assistance. Details: I’m using an Asus Crosshair viii hero wifi X570 AMD 5950x rig. Temperatures are generally between 30-60°C. I’m running Gigabyte 6900XT 16GB Xtreme Waterforce with stock firmware, averaging around 40-70°C. The system is connected via a certified Pice Lian Li 4.0 riser cable. I have a 64GB (four 16GB) Teamgroup Darkrock Pro Cl16 and Samsung B-die memory installed in stock mode. There’s also an 1TB PCIe 4 WD Black NVMe drive, a 2TB PCIe 3 WD 550 NVMe drive, and a 3TB HDD with a Corsair ax1200 PSU. The case is watercooled with EK Velocity block, and I’m using two EK 360 radiators in series. OS is Windows 11, freshly installed with the latest ISO and updated BIOS.
Symptoms began about 2-3 months ago. The system would crash during specific games like Final Fantasy 14, Cyberpunk, and Rainbow Six Siege. I attribute this to excessive overclocking and AMD graphics cards. After updating the drives, refreshing the BIOS, and resetting the overclock settings, the issue continued. Blue screens appear after crashes, followed by a Volmgr 161 and Kernel-Power 41 error. The Event Viewer shows numerous StorPort errors, and the dump file doesn’t save during BSOD. I’ve tried Sfc scannow, chkdsk, BIOS reinstall, and even used Sysnative, but nothing resolves it.
Possible causes:
- Motherboard may have too much memory or a faulty board.
- PSU might be nearing end of life; it hasn’t been showing any signs yet.
I’m really frustrated and would appreciate any advice, even if it means buying new parts. Please help!
Gather all components and test them together using one stick. Run each stick independently in the machine to check stability. Determine whether the problem lies with the RAM or the motherboard.
Latest AMD chipset drivers from AMD are available. The Asus Armory Crate has been installed; remove it via the official tool on the motherboard site—uninstalling alone doesn’t fix issues. RAM was tested with PassMark memtest86, and the CPU was re-seated after checking for bent pins.
Latest AMD drives 22.7.1 were released by AMD, though problems occurred between 22.5 and 22.6 and are still ongoing. The Asus Armory Crate was not installed. I disliked it and its issues. Ran a Windows memory test with no errors found. Will attempt a passmark now and update. Tried reseating the CPU multiple times, re-pasting the setup, no bent pins—GPU hard fittings secure it in place. This was my first concern, so I’m relieved it’s resolved. Will give it another try. Thanks for your help!
Here are the details you requested:
Chipset drivers: https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/...t-am4/x570
BIOS changes: curve optimization, CPU settings adjustments
Upgrade considerations: 4GB+ RAM and Smart Access Memory
Chipset drivers are currently the latest version available. From the AMD link you provided, several updates were applied: 4G enabled for SAM, TPM replaced with firmware for Windows 11 security, and CMS configured to UEFI. No other changes were made.
Make sure to check the RAM one stick at a time, removing others. Test each slot thoroughly—there could be an issue with just one.
After twelve hours of testing, I placed a new Aorus Master X570 motherboard order. Passmem completed 4 passes over 8 hours without any errors or problems. I checked every memory module and slot, finding that both slots connected to the primary lane caused inconsistent BSODs. Additionally, a new error appeared when loading sensors, triggering BSOD repeatedly at the Chipset temperature sensor bank. Hopefully this resolves the issue.
