I’m just starting out with building my PC and I’m facing some issues. Here’s what happened:

- The system started normally after the build, with stable temperatures and no stress tests.
- On March 7th, at 12:00 PM, the monitor went black while playing a game. The DRAM light turned yellow and the PC didn’t respond for over five minutes.
- When I tried to shut it down, pressing the case power button didn’t work. Now the PSU is off and I’m turning it back on.
- The case power button works when I turn the PC on, but the system still won’t shut down.
- There are red LEDs on the CPU and yellow on the DRAM now.
- I updated the BIOS, tried flashing it from a thumb drive, but the process stopped after a few minutes.
- I also tried booting with just one RAM stick, but it didn’t work either.

What should I do next?

The DRM light indicates an issue, so try starting with just one drive and check all available slots.

He attempted to start with just one USB drive, but it failed. Follow his instructions from step 5.

I already tried. Update on the situation, I left the PC powered on overnight, PC went sleep mode, red CPU LED disappeared(yellow DRAM was present still) but the case power button wouldn’t turn the PC off still and when I restarted using PSU switch, CPU red LED is back on along with DRAM yellow light.

CPU was just repositioned without any issues. I checked all contacts and pins on the motherboard, everything looks intact and clean.

Not exactly the same problem, I own an ASUS TUF X870-PLUS but had the same issue with a 9800X3D yesterday. While playing a COD round in Nuketown, the system froze and stopped responding to any input. After that, no response at all and a constant yellow light. I've used the same CPU with a 9900X3D without any trouble. I've tried everything: different RAM sticks (two 16GB at 7800MT/s with XMP), a fresh CMOS battery, another PSU, unplugged the SDD, GPU and other components. Checked for shorts in the case. In short... I've already sent a return request for the CPU. It seems the 9800X3D is having serious issues. Have you heard about any widespread problems with the 9800X3D? I know ASRock CPUs but not MSI or Asus models. Updated March 30, 2025 by MilkyTech
