I receive error code 124 after switching from the OCgenie oc to my own overclock, which I set up following instructions from a YouTube video. I observed that opening YouTube triggered a blue screen, making me wonder if it's a hardware or temperature problem. My Hyper X Evo 212 cooler is installed, and I think the issue might be related to overheating, though my CPU core temperatures before the crash were around 40°C, which seems typical according to the overclocking guide.

I found a straightforward guide on overclocking. It explains that the process is quite simple since there isn't much variation, making it easy to follow.

error code 124 appears exclusively when the CPU is undervolted.
the overclocking genies are ineffective. reset your BIOS to the default settings manually.

I completed the task manually by watching the video, but after taking notes I ended up with a 124 bsod when trying to enter YouTube videos. I'm unsure what went wrong and would appreciate someone reviewing the details to help me understand my mistake.

sure; i don't possess the overclocking master badge for no reason
😀
that said, those OCgenies don't really perform well. Curious to know, when I overclocked my i5-4690k using the ASUS motherboard, it turned out to be a terrible and unstable attempt. It was nowhere close to what manual overclocking could achieve. Seems like you might have used a stable board and tried to push it beyond that threshold? Not too clear from what you mentioned.
still, the blue screen error 124 is a well-known issue when overclocking Intel CPUs, and it typically appears when the CPU is undervolted.

I began from the very beginning, starting at the base clock and moving forward. I reset the OC Genie clock which was only .5, but it didn’t seem to make a difference. Then I resumed watching the video and kept following along. I believe my issue is with the video itself—I followed everything without realizing where adjustments were needed. This is my first experience with this, so I’m sorry for any mistakes I made.

As I mentioned, I only modified what was visible in the video.
CPU Base Clock: 100.00
Clock strap: Auto
Apply mode: Next Boot
Adjust CPU Ratio: 45
CPU Ratio Mode: Fixed
Ring Ratio: 42
Dram Frequency: 1333
SVID: Auto
VCCI Voltage: Auto
CPU Core Voltage Mode: Adaptive
CPU Core Voltage: 1.250
CPU Core Voltage Offset Mode: Auto
CPU Ring Voltage: 1200
CPU Ring Voltage Offset Mode: Auto
CPU SA Voltage Offset: +
CPU SA Voltage Offset: 0.250
CPU IO Analog Voltage Offset Mode: +
CPU IO Digital Voltage Offset Mode: +
Internal VR OVP OCP Protection: On
Intel Cstate enabled
I wasn’t aware this indicated an undervoltage situation; I thought I was overvolting.

Just a brief inquiry, in my mobile BIOS a Z87-G45 I don't notice ring bus or uncore in the OC menu. I see a ring ratio but it's just a variable I need to set.

keep the ring ratio unchanged. I've noticed a few individuals managing to add about 100mhz to clock speed, but usually it doesn't significantly impact overclocking. It's usually better to focus on CPU multipliers and vcore adjustments.

Thank you for your patience. Your issue is clear: in your mobile BIOS a Z87-G45 chip isn't showing ring bus or uncore in the OC menu, though the guide suggested setting it to manual. You mentioned you don't have that manual option. Regarding your request, there is no built-in feature to take a screenshot of the BIOS while in BIOS mode and post it.
