Attempting to upgrade your Gigabyte P34G from 8.1 Home to 10 Home caused a crash. The update stalled at 91% during feature installation and then terminated with a fatal error about VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR. It restarted to Windows 8.1, but the issue persists. Anyone have tips to complete the install and get your gaming laptop working again?

Press F10 during startup and enable safe mode. Once active, you can request a system reset after ensuring everything is ready.

Dedicated graphics card available? If yes, nothing else seems to work. Consider removing the graphics card and checking drivers; then upgrade to integrated graphics before reinstalling the card and drivers. This is just an assumption based on the VIDEO_DX_GKRNL_FATAL_ERROR message. I might be completely off. Disclaimer: proceed at your own risk. The level of risk is unclear.

It’s not working properly during the first setup, so going into safe mode isn’t possible. Since it’s a gaming laptop, you can’t remove the NVIDIA graphics card.

On a forum user's end, I attempted to install software via USB and it functioned properly. The main challenge was that my GTX 960M was disabled in Device Manager under Code 43. I removed the driver, turned off automatic updates for nVidia cards, and downloaded the newest driver from the manufacturer’s site. Still no success Undecided

After checking Gigabyte's website, I noticed they released driver updates for laptops with similar hardware but newer graphics cards. I installed the latest Intel chipset drivers and rebooted; my NVIDIA card stopped working. It seems a compatibility issue was fixed by the new drivers.
