Ensuring a stable admin workstation with the X1 Carbon motherboard?
Hey there. I chose a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen 3) with a defective motherboard. The power button would illuminate when pressed to turn it on, but the screen remained blank. I swapped in a similar model (i7 5600u, 8GB RAM) from EBay, and after switching on, the system started up normally. What I encountered was something unfamiliar—Secure Admin Workstation (SAW). It seemed to be running through an automatic startup sequence, but the second step required internet access, which I don’t have since I lack a Lenovo Ethernet adapter. Beyond that, I’m still unsure what SAW is and whether it could cause any issues. Did I miss replacing the SSD during the swap? Is there a specific component on that unit I should replace, or is it tied to the motherboard I bought? Should I discard the included SSD and install a new one, along with a Windows license? Thanks, and sorry for any confusion.
It seems like a highly restricted Windows setup. It appears to be a peculiar installation process. You can simply erase and reinstall using a USB drive.
That sounds really challenging. Would making it on your desktop be a good idea? Thanks!
You would simply rely on the official resource: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software.../windows10
