Hi forums! My computer has been working smoothly since I set it up, but tonight something strange happened. While restoring a friend's photo, I switched between chatting and using Telegram. I hovered my mouse over several programs to bring one back, only to realize I hadn't clicked it. Normally, highlighting disappears when you move the mouse away, but here it stayed stuck in blue (#1E4C8C). When I clicked another icon, it also turned blue! Every app I hovered over changed color and couldn't be hidden. Refreshing the desktop didn’t help—it just made everything turn that same shade. On monitor 2, there’s no background anymore, only a blue surface with bits of my original wallpaper visible. This issue shows up on both screens and sometimes only on one. I restarted explorer.exe briefly, but it worked only for a short time before returning. I tried restarting the whole computer, but the problem returned right away. I noticed that when I selected files, the color seemed to transfer from my desktop to the app window, like my screen was being copied. Once the background fully changed to blue, highlighted apps displayed the original desktop in the same way. Using the selection tool erased the blue and restored the usual look. I thought maybe a virus was involved—checking inside the folder showed everything normal—and even scanned with Malwarebytes, which only found a PUP. I removed it since I hadn’t used it much. I’m puzzled by this behavior and don’t know how to fix it. Any tips would be appreciated! Here are some screenshots for reference.
Restarting graphics drivers is an option. Please check the required specifications.
You can check my details on my profile. The site lets you provide a full spec list, and I just refreshed them. This issue isn’t happening right now, but I recall a similar problem from before my old computer failed after running too long. I left it on for too long, and clicking anything caused it to scroll up, making it hard to interact. I thought it was a serious virus, so my mom took it to a repair shop, which cleaned it up, but the problem persisted. Eventually, I realized the fix came from shutting it down after it had been running too long.
