Ensure screen blacks without backlight during gameplay after a short period
Currently, the issue is resolved. Earlier, this exact problem occurred and was resolved by repeatedly uninstalling the drivers. The display becomes black with no backlight, and LEDs on the mouse and keyboard return to their default state. When the crash happens, the headphones produce a buzzing noise. I reviewed the event logs and found only a critical error indicating an unexpected power cut. There are some inconsistencies in the situation as well. Usually, when the screen goes black, the fans increase speed to maximum. At that point, launching the PC shows a stretched resolution, the display frequency is limited to 60Hz, and during AMD application startup it displays "Windows update may have automatically replaced..." When this happened: The instances when the problem appeared and lasted were while playing Resident Evil 4 Remake. Could it be coincidence? Perhaps, but it's hard to say. Once the issue began, every game I played displayed the same symptoms—screen goes black, peripherals return to internal mode, nothing responds. To fix it, I repeatedly uninstalled AMD drivers using DDU and then reinstalled them. I kept doing this without changing much each time, just hoping it would help. I was surprised it worked, but I wasn’t fully satisfied. I didn’t understand the exact cause, and having it repeat twice is frustrating. A permanent solution would be ideal. See the solution details: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 GPU: AMD Radeon Sapphire Radeon RX 6700 Pulse 10GB Motherboard: D3sh b550 PSU: Cooler Master MWE Gold 550W Power Supply RAM: Kingston Fury Renegade 16GB Storage: Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe SSD 1TB OS: Windows 10 (64x)
We spent many hours trying to pinpoint the issue and discovered the GPU was the culprit. We replaced the GPU with a Radeon RX580 and ran a stress test on the system. Interestingly, it didn’t crash despite the high load. However, we suspected a PSU problem since only 550W was supplying power for the 6700 (non-xt). We reduced the voltage and it failed under stress. I wasn’t entirely sure it was just the GPU, though—it might be due to insufficient power from the PSU. So I’m still using the RX580, likely needing a 750W PSU and possibly a new GPU. I’ll keep updating this post if anyone encounters the same issue. Finally, the main problem turned out to be the 8-pin cable connected to the GPU. Before replacing the PSU, test with different cables to see if it resolves the issue.
