I have an ASUS ROG Strix B550-E and I constantly have an external 14TB WD EasyStore USB HDD plugged in. My system waits for the drive to initialize before posting. Is there any way to let the system start up/load into Windows without waiting? Can the drive be initialized and recognized after Windows loads?
I've noticed something like this before... Are you certain it's not Windows trying to verify the USB drive? Windows tends to act a bit odd with USB HDDs, believing they need checking. It's easy to overlook if you just let it handle things, and yes, it can take a long time. This happens every time my WD Passport connects, but not with my Seagate Backup Plus. Makes sense. Thank you for the idea, but the USB drive wasn't included initially.
The delay continues before I even notice the boot logo, meaning Windows hasn't begun loading. Appreciate the tip!
You're asking about the meaning behind the boot logo. It could be the BIOS logo, the manufacturer's branding, or Windows itself. Your experience with the Asus TUF logo staying visible while Windows loading is a clear indicator of which one it is.
Refers to the initial BIOS/Board icon you see after the system starts. It offers a choice to press a button for entering BIOS. Once selected, the process moves swiftly, suggesting Windows isn't hindering it.
If external drives are linked, they might still be determining if they "smell right," leading to a minor pause before the system checks them.
