I planned to post this message to check if anyone would be open to using Steam’s streaming tools at home, via a network connection (Steam link), on Xbox One or PlayStation 4. Would you consider joining me? What equipment would you choose? Could you share your insights? I’m curious to know if this idea is unique to me. Below is a brief overview of my Steam streaming experience and the Xbox attempts.
Steam Home Streaming: Roughly six months ago, after having my wisdom teeth pulled and feeling quite bored, I tried streaming games on my PC from the couch. I moved my gaming rig closer to the router in my basement and set up Steam in Home Streaming. I connected a laptop to the main floor cable near the couch. Launching GTA V was smooth, but latency and input delays were noticeable. I upgraded by adding an Ethernet cable to create a network bridge, which improved COD Black Ops 3 streaming significantly.
Xbox Experience: When I bought a Ryzen at launch, I replaced my old PC (mix of server/workstation parts and GTX 1070). After two weeks, I tried updating the BIOS for better performance—though it failed. The service from Asus was disappointing. While I played Halo 5 with my cousin on PC, streaming through Xbox felt much more enjoyable. Switching to a PC was motivated by the fun I had there. Now I’m considering using Steam on a more powerful machine and streaming to a less demanding one. What suggestions do you have? Would you be interested in a high-end setup elsewhere for streaming? Any advice would be appreciated.
