Right now I have 16 gigabytes of RAM installed, but I frequently switch between tasks for work and gaming. I’m considering adding another set of 16 sticks to boost my system. I noticed some GSKill 32-gigabyte options for just a bit more than $40. Would it make sense to buy two 16GB sticks and connect them to my PC for a total of 48 gigabytes? The same brand and specifications are used, with matching speeds and timing. Would this affect my performance? My current setup includes a Ryzen 7 5800X processor, G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB RAM (2x8GB), a 3600 CL18-22-22-42 DDR4 288-pin SDRAM, and a Gigabyte RTX 2080 Super Mobo with MS-7C56.
10-12GB isn’t worth the upgrade. It covers about 60-75% of your total memory, and considering what Windows reserves, you’re using roughly half. Once you hit 14GB+, you’ll likely need more space. If you still want extra capacity, add another 16GB. A 48GB unit won’t help much because mixing 12GB from 32GB and 12GB from 48GB gives the same speed. RAM becomes important mainly when you’re running low. More doesn’t always mean better speed compared to having less.
You're seeing a high memory clock of 2133 MHz even though your cards support up to 3600 MHz. This could be due to BIOS settings or other system configurations. Checking the BIOS menu might help adjust the memory timings if needed.
Select the appropriate profile (XMP or DOCP) based on whether Intel or AMD is used. Enter the RAM speed from the available options, as most profiles are already stored in the BIOS. Let me know if you need help locating it.
