Verify if the PSU connectors match the standard specifications. Disconnect the 20+4 pin power connector from the motherboard and provide an image for reference.

This suggestion seems unhelpful and off-topic. Upgrading from 8 to 16GB RAM on an older CPU won't significantly improve performance. If the power supply is average, a better option would be a 3200 series motherboard and new DDR4 RAM. He might also consider adding an SSD.

@Qwertydop Don't bother with the picture, I checked and it's a standard power connector, which means you can use the same PSU... I'd recommend upgrading it as soon as possible, but it should be okay for this. PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3200G 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor ($99.99 @ Best Buy) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-A320M-S2H Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($54.99 @ Amazon) Memory: G.Skill Value 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR4-2666 CL19 Memory ($25.99 @ Newegg) Storage: ADATA SU635 240 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($26.99 @ Amazon) Total: $207.96 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-08-19 18:41 EDT-0400 You're upgrading from one APU to another, but this one is way faster.

It seems you're comparing options and wondering about the extra cost of higher-end equipment. The issue is that one stick has poor performance, while another offers better speed and lower latency. The price difference for a 3000-3200mhz kit is significant compared to the single stick.
