Hi everyone, I've assembled several PCs over the years using only basic parts. My girlfriend needs a laptop or computer for her studies and she's very budget-conscious, aiming to spend as little as possible. She owns an old Dell all-in-one that's been prebuilt. It runs quite slowly and isn't very practical. The motherboard supports a 1150 socket and currently has a 4th generation Pentium processor. I was considering upgrading it to something similar but slightly more powerful, like an older i5 or even an i7 since they're relatively inexpensive second-hand. I'm wondering if there will be any issues with the motherboard being "locked" or related to the operating system, and whether I can simply replace the consumer CPU in the prebuilt case. I might also look into purchasing an SSD to improve performance.

Install the SSD directly as instructed. It may restart afterward for office work, and there’s no upgrade that could fix this issue.
