Hello, I'm looking to switch from my existing setup. CPU 7700k, Z270-A motherboard, new 7800XT PSU, 1000W power supply, DDR4 3600 RAM. I need the best value for around $500. Right now I'm considering the 7800X3D, but I want to explore other options too. This is strictly for gaming—no video or photo editing. Thanks in advance. P.S. Linus, if you decide to upgrade again later, you'd be my hero.

With your current system, any setup around an i5 12600k, 13400r5 or 7600 is suitable. Avoid choosing a 7700 or 7700x unless you're using AMD; the difference in cost is minimal, around $20-30. For AMD options, skipping future upgrades isn't a problem either. Opt for a $150-180 DDR4 Z690/Z790 motherboard and pair it with your 12600k for a total of $300-350. Then stick to the same RAM you already have. Honestly, if you have a fixed budget, you wouldn’t go for a 7800x3d. For instance, which build gives better gaming performance? Here’s what PCPartPicker suggests:

- AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz (~$350) + ASRock B650 ATX (~$150) + Klevv BOLT V (~$91.99) + XFX Speedster QICK RX 7800 XT (~$509.99) = ~$1101
- Intel Core i5-12600K 3.7 GHz (~$180) + MSI MPG Z690 (~$160) + ASRock Phantom Gaming OC RX 7900 XT (~$769.99) = ~$1109

Both total in the same range, but keep in mind your existing GPU and whether you can upgrade later.

Also keep in mind that if the cpu cant handle 6400 you can detune to ~6200 Also a good choice cause guaranteed hynix a die (klevv = hynix) and you can just lazy set ~6200-6400

Between Intel and AMD, I believe AMD's processors tend to perform better over time due to their newer architecture and efficiency improvements.
