Enhance your photo editing with a RAM upgrade.
Hello everyone, I'm evaluating a RAM upgrade for my desktop. I usually work with around 28-32 GB while editing RAW files in Adobe Lightroom, which take about 45-50 MB each. Right now I have a 32 GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 3244mhz system built with a Gigabyte x570 Xtreme and an AMD Ryzen 9 5950x. I've considered two Corsair options: one 64 GB kit at 3600MHz and another 4 sticks of 16 GB at 3600MHz. The latter offers lower latency but isn't dual channel. Would a 64 GB upgrade be beneficial, or would going to 128 GB justify the higher cost? I'm also interested in the Corsair Kits you mentioned—two 64 GB units and one 32 GB with 2x 32 GB CL18 and another 4x 16 GB CL16.
Typically, AMD struggles with 4-channel memory performance. Using two 32GB modules might be better. A high-speed scratch disk could also improve things.
You're unfamiliar with scratch disks, that's okay. They're a type of storage media. Would you like to know more about them?
The issue is similar whether you use two sticks or just one in a dual channel setup.
The 4 stick is quicker. It has a cl16 rating. The 2 stick set is cl18.
