Hey there! So I recently purchased Borderlands 2 and play it at maximum settings on my laptop. It runs smoothly at around 30 to 45 frames per second, though the performance can vary based on the number of enemies or items in view. What I’ve noticed is that whenever the game first displays an item—like loot or shop goods—or a map, it seems to load with extremely high-quality graphics and then automatically upgrades to the highest settings. I think this might be related to how Unreal Engine handles rendering, but I’m not entirely sure. I’m pretty confident my computer isn’t the issue since I have a solid graphics card (Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M), a decent processor (i7 4750HQ), and 8 GB of DDR3 RAM. Thanks in advance for your help!

In the latest Unreal engines (versions 3-4), this capability is known as "texture streaming." It allows developers to defer texture loading until needed, which can improve initial game performance.

They cut down the load screens time mainly during the first game launch, not just after a delay.

For those with solid setups it hardly matters, yet for users on older systems it significantly impacts performance. Learn more in the details provided.

Generally, this occurs in Unreal Engine 3 titles. In many cases, it may be due to your computer's limited storage or RAM, though it seems to affect players in Borderlands 2 as well.

Absolutely, your system isn't powerful enough, but as @typographie mentioned, it's a common problem in Borderlands 2.

I encountered an odd glitch in the Mass Effect titles where animations would lag behind audio playback. There were also texture pops and stuttering effects. Running on a GTX 870m feels similar to older mobile systems. The issue was fixed by restarting the system, then launching the game alone. It works smoothly now, but background tasks seem to cause problems.

It also relies on the hardware specs, especially the VRAM. For outdated systems, games might face texture streaming problems since texture pools aren't fixed—most developers use auto or max settings. This issue is noticeable in UE3 and later versions.

I understand your message. Here’s your response rephrased:

Read my second update. I’m conscious of it.
