Hi guys, I have been having an issue with DX9 on Windows 8.1, and I have no idea how to fix it. If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Okay, here's my story: I am currently participating in the A Hat in Time Alpha (runs on DX9 right now), and the game does not run well on my desktop or my laptop. Before I got my desktop, I assumed the performance hit was due to the poor hardware in my machine. Once I got my desktop with a GTX 750 Ti, performance didn't increase much. My framerates were under thirty, most of the time, even at lowered out settings. I contact Gears for Breakfast (creators of A Hat in Time), and I went back and forth with them, trying to fix my issue. They were really nice and considerate, and really wanted to fix my problem. The best solution we found was to put the game in a borderless window. My framerates were still under thirty, but it helped a little bit. The developers are stumped as to why I am having this issue. Another Alpha tester notified me that Windows 8.1 has issues with DirectX9, and I would have to wait until Microsoft optimizes it. I tried running the Alpha in compatibility mode, but the performance only went up by a frame or two. Is there anything I can do right now, or must I wait for Mircrosoft to fix this? I would also like to note that my DX11 titles run perfectly fine on my machine at high settings. I have full permission to discuss about this Alpha.

The DX9 games function properly on your PC using Windows 8.1. Have you explored other DX9 releases? The issue might be related to the alpha version. You could attempt reinstalling DX9 and see if that resolves the problem. Link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/...x?id=34429

The installer indicated you must have Windows XP or an earlier version installed.
