Encountered a stuck Windows boot screen after disabling CSM and switching to UEFI.
Details: MSI B450-a PRO running on 7B86vAD BIOS with Ryzen 2600x, EVGA GTX 1060, 6GB ACX 3.0 gaming graphics card, Riotoro Enigma 850W, 80+ Gold, 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance DDR4 RAM, Windows 10 21H2 Enterprise. System setup for a Tesla M40 was attempted by disabling CSM and enabling UEFI, but it kept showing the boot screen. After running for ten hours, it remained stuck. Boot drive is GPT, not MBR, while other storage drives use MBR. The only workaround found online was to set the boot drive as GPT, which didn’t resolve the problem. A screenshot of GPU-Z during CSM enabled boot was shared. Edited May 15, 2022 by ham345 Added image
From a gaming perspective, the Tesla M40 is essentially a more affordable version of the 1060, though it comes with certain limitations. It was released around 2015, so it predates many modern operating systems and may not support current software needs. There’s a possibility it was designed for basic use rather than intensive gaming. The graphics card is likely outdated, which could explain why it struggles with demanding tasks like running a content management system.
I haven't attempted starting with a Tesla M40 in my vehicle, just a 1060. My goal is to boot using UEFI because the M40 needs "Above 4G Decoding" activated and CSM isn't compatible; otherwise, I must use UEFI for it to function.
I’ve heard about people playing on them. One of the more impressive features of workstation cards is their attention to detail, such as many bit color options and extensive tweaks that are disabled by default. This allows performance far beyond what a 3080 can achieve. Hopefully you’ll get it working.
