I’m trying to assist a friend who’s not very familiar with technology. He wants to set up Windows 10 on a brand-new PC he just assembled, but the installation didn’t go through. He mentioned the installer crashed and didn’t display any messages. After trying again, his NVMe storage isn’t showing up, though it does appear in the BIOS. Everything else seems normal. I shared a screenshot of some steps he followed, but he noted the volume never appeared. Given my experience helping with tech issues, this situation is tricky. I’m limited in what I can do since he’s far away and needs help quickly. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! I’ve never encountered an installation failure before.

Reset the storage device through the BIOS settings, remove it carefully, and reinstall it, resetting the CMOS with jumper connections.

The BIOS and the operating system have conflicting views on whether the NVMe Drive exists. It might have been set up as an MBR disk rather than GPT. For best results, try accessing DISKPART. If the presence indicator appears, convert it to a GPT drive and continue normally. If not, there could be a problem with the BIOS configuration.

I'm facing the same problem but with slight differences. My PC was functioning normally after a fresh installation with all new components. I installed my second SSD for extra storage, but I left the power cable unplugged, thinking it wouldn't show up. A search suggested renaming the drive from C to D, though I'm unsure if that worked. Now my system won't boot and displays an "inaccessible boot device" message. The new SSD (SATA) isn't visible in BIOS, while the old M.2 one is, but neither appears in DiskPart or Secure Erase. When trying to install Windows on just the new drive, the process failed again, sending me back to where I began. I'm using an ASUS Strix Z690F.

Create a separate thread for your concern instead of taking over this one.
Understand why your boot drive was changed to D.
Ensure both drives are connected to power and storage.
Check the motherboard user manual; most models block certain SATA ports when an M.2 drive is active. Verify you're not using a blocked port for your SSD, and that the SATA setting isn't disabled in BIOS.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll talk to my friend this evening and try to help him understand this clearly.
