I have a client's Vista laptop experiencing issues with Windows updates. All anti-malware tools are disabled, scans aren't working, and wireless connects normally but updates become restricted after 5-10 minutes. Ethernet works fine. I suspect a virus is present. Sorry for the limited details—I'm stuck using a tablet.

I just fixed the anti-malware issue by removing Avast and reinstalling it. Now Windows Defender is working, and I’m using Malwarebytes as usual—it functions perfectly. Thanks for the advice, Rorgash!

Absolutely, I fully agree but the client is satisfied.

Vista follows a slightly different process than the usual update steps. Begin with the regular update, wait for the error notification (no need to stress about it). Then keep the update window open and avoid any changes for 20 minutes. After that, close the window and restart the update. Trust the process!
