I installed Windows 8.1 Pro on my freshly cleaned system. The license I have is Windows 8 Pro, not the 8.1 version. Earlier I faced this issue and reached out to Microsoft, who provided me with a code to activate it. When I tried again, they advised purchasing a new 8.1 key. Is there a way to resolve this without buying a new license or restarting the system? Thank you for your assistance!

Once you set up Windows 8, it will automatically upgrade to 8.1 without any cost. No additional license is required.

Yes, you can reach 8 from 8.1 by using the built-in navigation features without reinstalling.

Your code is specifically designed for Windows 8. It serves as a unique activation key that cannot be copied and will become invalid after a set period.

Activation will occur, but you'll need a standard key at installation and update it afterward.

The key was limited to 8, which meant the free upgrade couldn't be applied.

Yes, it functions properly. Just install Windows 8.1 from the ISO using the generic installation keys. After setting it up, enter your 8.0 key when prompted, and it will activate correctly as long as the versions match.

I replied quickly because I needed to leave. The main point is that the setup won’t work as expected. However, Windows activation should function properly. If you bypass the product key to launch Windows 8.1 on trial (especially with a retail version), or use a generic key (like OEM), you should be able to activate it with your Windows product key later. Keep in mind, using the Media Center pack from Microsoft or purchasing it for Windows 8 won’t work in Windows 8.1. Apologies for the incomplete explanation earlier. Sometimes rushing leads to missing important details.
