In response to the recent channel breach, focus on the tiny checkbox that stays hidden by default on Windows 10 and 11. This makes it simple for attackers to deceive users into executing harmful scripts they might have downloaded. ThioJoe discussed this by adjusting the Layout to "Details," but many prefer not to do so, leaving vulnerabilities open. I’m proposing a solution: add a "File name extensions" checkbox in the "Show/hide" section under "View" for Windows 10, and within the "Show" submenu under the "View" button for Windows 11. This helps clarify files with extensions like ".pdf.exe" or ".cmd," making it easier to identify their true nature. I’ve included images showing both versions and a demo of files with and without this setting. I’ve applied this method to modify config files in Notepad by switching the extension to ".txt." Examples for Windows 10 and 11 are provided, with the left option checked and the right unchecked.
