Enable dark theme in File Explorer for a more comfortable viewing experience.
Hi, I've been using Dark Mode since its release in Windows 10. I think it started years ago after upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and doing a clean install. I was curious why Microsoft kept the white background in File Explorer while others didn't. After the October Windows update, I tried again and found out it might not work for me. Any advice?
The update introduced Dark Mode in File Explorer for Windows 10 version 1809 (October 2018). Prior versions lacked this feature. It adds the open and save dialog but removes others like file copy/merge/conflict boxes, message boxes, folder selection, old Control Panel, Security & Maintenance panel, etc.
Hey there, friend. I get it—confused about the updates and versions. It seems you were expecting something from October but got 1803 instead. Good to know you checked the screenshots of people using Win10 with dark mode in their file explorer. Thanks for the update!
Hey! No worries, yes. Those who have it are part of the Windows Insiders program, or they got the update before it was pulled out soon after because of a critical problem (data loss) on certain system setups. Microsoft is handling it. We might see this week or next, that’s what I’m hoping for. Keep waiting.
