Checked out some clips from EliteBig Grinangerous, considering joining the BETA. There are concerns about performance, bugs, and stability—anyone who plays it here has any advice or impressions?

It's not only about bugs and glitches; content shortages are also a concern. Make sure to review the game page to understand your options. You might find it dull after some time. The same applies to Star Citizen—it appears strong, but its functionality is quite restricted once you're just admiring the visuals.

Bugs aren't too bothersome right now. It's a really enjoyable process, most major features are ready. Braben likens it to constructing a house—first the foundation is laid, then the walls are up and they're moving into the decorating phase. They're nearing the end of beta (likely by month's end). You'll need to understand that the remaining beta time will be limited, and all your efforts could be undone by then. If you're okay with that or just want to wait a bit longer, go ahead. Otherwise, it might be best to pre-order now.

I've been really excited after watching some gameplay; my wife had to restrain me from going to the store to pick up a flight stick and maybe a throttle. Is this justified? Right now the game lets you run courier services to various locations and includes combat elements, but beyond that it's pretty limited.

I really enjoy this game. If you don’t own it, I’d hold off until the full launch since the beta is nearing its end and you’ll save $25. In the current beta phase, there are several key activities available: trading, piracy, bounty hunting, mining, and exploration. There are numerous ships with many upgrade options, though more will be introduced before the official release. The playable universe is enormous—400 billion stars or more, each containing planets, some with moons and others with stations. You can join factions you support or oppose; combat feels engaging, and the game supports solo play, which is great for avoiding other players or network problems. The scale and visuals are impressive. Although after a few weeks it might feel repetitive with similar trade routes or mining tasks, improvements will come with the final release, adding dynamic universe elements like shifting stations, random conflicts, and large-scale battles. The controls aren’t necessary but the experience is enjoyable. Also, it’s fully compatible with Oculus.

I’m trading a lot of patience for an early pre-order instead of holding off until after the release. It’ll come out soon, so there’s no need to wait for reviews.

You're keen on this topic. I wasn't aware of how numerous similar games are available, and I'm excited to hear about the upcoming releases next year.
