Today my computer started functioning properly for about 5 to 10 minutes. Then it seemed to enter sleep mode, but after a while it began making several short beeps. I searched online but haven’t found a clear solution yet. I’ve removed the RAM and tried placing them individually, in groups, and in different locations. Recently, one RAM slot showed a red light next to the power button, while the other had a green light. Any suggestions on what to do next? I’m having trouble finding a fix.

I believe five beeps from the HP indicates a pre-video RAM issue. For testing, disconnect power and remove the CMOS battery for ten minutes. Then attempt to run only one RAM DIMM in slot 1, ensuring it's properly seated. Inspect the DIMM slots and nearby area for any signs of damage. It functioned previously, so this likely points to a temporary problem rather than a hardware incompatibility (ECC present on Xeon E3, or ECC supported on Core i3/i5/i7).

The choice of RAM doesn't affect performance, as long as both cards are compatible with your system.

It varies, what exactly you're asking about.

When they match, it doesn't really matter. (These are standard unbuffered, non-ECC RAM and should fit any system.) For completeness, test each stick separately.

Remove the cable and battery first, then test each one separately or try them one at a time.

Disconnect the power source, take out the battery, and let it rest for ten minutes. After that, reinsert the battery and add a RAM DIMM into a memory slot. Reconnect the power and check if the computer boots up.
