Genius little brother downloaded Valorant, which uses a root kit, on the family computer after being told not to multiple times. Although I don’t know much about computers, I know enough not to willingly download a Chinese virus. I would appreciate it if you guys could give me simplified steps on how to 100% remove it. From what I understand it’s pretty persistent and have anti deleting mechanisms. Luckily it’s a new computer, so I’m willing to nuke the computer if necessary. Thank you for your help edit: I know they Riot Games made an official guide on how to delete it, but I’m taking it with a grain of salt.

They didn’t simplify the process of getting rid of the Vanguard anti-cheat tool from Programs and Features in Windows.

They provide an official removal guide on their site. It's unclear whether the malware lingers afterward, so a fresh Windows installation is recommended for complete elimination. https://support-valorant.riotgames.com/h...t-Vanguard

It’s not quite malware, but it’s still something you should eliminate. The rootkit part is a kernel driver named vgk.sys found at C:\Program Files\Riot Vanguard\vgk.sys. It runs through a Windows service that also loads the vanguard app, which in turn loads the driver. My advice would be: 1) Use the official uninstall instructions 2) Restart your computer 3) Look for that driver folder above (and also check C:\Windows\system32\drivers). If it’s gone, you’re likely done with the likely problematic parts. Without testing what it writes or what disappears during removal, I can’t be certain everything is cleared.
