I recently discovered some components from an older OEM and decided to install them on my system. I got a 1000w PSU and a Ryzen 5700x. When trying to fit the motherboard into my old case, it didn’t work. I checked if the power supply functioned in the OEM version, but it failed completely—just turned on with a reset switch but no stable power. After that, I wondered if the MOBO was faulty and replaced it with a new one (which turned out to be ASUS TUF 570X PLUS). Today I connected it and was surprised to find that even my old 750w PSU couldn’t power it. However, the 1000w unit seemed to work thanks to a special back power button feature. It then emitted a burning smell, leaving me in a tough spot. I can’t afford to buy new parts, yet I really need my PC back up. Is the 750w PSU compatible with the original MOBO, but not with the OEM version?

The Dell OEM PSU typically uses a custom connector design. Many manufacturers, including Dell, prefer unique components over standard ones.

This adjustment works consistently across all three boards flawlessly.

Neither of your PSUs was able to supply power to the OEM board, and the OEM PSU failed to keep your board running. That’s accurate.

750 is limited to operating the original unit. 1000 can handle all devices, but only using this specific reset or test switch. The odor suggests it shouldn't be in use.
