Hello! I'm just starting out on the Forum. My setup includes a Framework laptop (i5-1135G7) paired with a 3060 TI in a Sonnet 550 Breakaway Box eGPU case. The 3060 was originally from an HP Omen prebuilt, which I bought on Facebook Marketplace. In PassMark tests, my best score after three runs was 9763, which is about 48% of the typical 3060 TI performance (around 20334). My fastest speed is still roughly 2.08 times slower than average. Still, my CPU performs better than the average. It's been this way since I got it, and I suspected something was wrong but decided to check now. I'm curious about what might be causing the issue—could it be the eGPU (which should only see a 10-30% drop), or is it related to the prebuilt nature of the case? I don't think it's a cooling problem, my drivers are up to date, and I couldn't find any BIOS settings for the GPU. A 52% performance loss is quite significant, particularly in VR. Any advice would be appreciated.

It seems you're discussing current PCIe 3.0 x4 connections. Back in the day, especially with the 1000 series, a 1080 would lag significantly. A 1060 was pushing its limits. Nowadays, cards like the GTX 1650 reach their full potential on a 3.0x4 link. The 3060 Ti is limited by slower PCIe versions, which explains why you're seeing reduced performance. EPGA was once interesting but has faded due to PCIe advancements. Today you can get slim, efficient laptops with powerful GPUs that rival a desktop setup.

It's time to part with my current gear and invest in a new PC. The trade-off is worth it.
