Hello everyone, I just received this RAM package – 2x16GB DDR4 unbuffered ECC. It functions well on my older Z270 board with an Intel 7600K processor. I’m considering upgrading to a new Ryzen lineup and was browsing various motherboards. Some listings mention support for ECC and non-ECC unbuffered memory, while others claim it doesn’t work at all. Anyone have experience or successful setups? I’m mainly interested in B550 boards.
ECC RAM may function just like regular RAM in systems without ECC support (such as Z270). It should generally work with Ryzen processors, though whether ECC remains active depends on the motherboard maker's choices.
The key factor is that it's unbuffered. The ECC feature might function or fail—it's only confirmed (not blocked) for the PRO version of these chips. Whether ECC operates correctly depends on the system, but it shouldn't prevent the device from turning on and starting up.
There might be some problems, but likely they stem from the other direction. If it's an MB that only supports ECC, it shouldn't behave like standard RAM.
