It won't function properly. Unbuffered ECC might succeed, but it lacks the necessary features. Registered or buffered ECC won't work at all.

If you use a Xeon processor, the ASUS X99 deluxe works. With other processors, it won't function. Registered ECC needs memory controller support.

I know I should get a Xeon. For building a FreeNAS PC, it's suggested to use ECC RAM.
