EA embarks on a mission to restore confidence among PC gamers
EA is making efforts to rebuild confidence among PC gamers*, but will they succeed? The company faces challenges with Origin and Steam’s current reputation. Launching games exclusively on Steam might not be the best move, as it could limit reach. EA Access could be a stronger tool, offering a reasonable monthly cost for extensive gameplay.
I genuinely believe the original version is superior, although neither of them really appeal to me. I’d want GOG to thrive instead of focusing on DRM.
I believe Steam could enhance several areas, starting with a better user interface—perhaps making it a top priority once security issues are resolved. I installed a theme myself, which wouldn’t have been possible if they hadn’t implemented fullscreen support, but I’d have used the available windowed mode to maximize screen space.
Generally I don't complain about EA. Some patches take a long time to release and often introduce more problems than they solve. The concept of a single backend managing in-game stats seems unrealistic. I'd like the option to choose where I download patches and have them hosted at an ISP level so it doesn't impact my data cap. I want to use the origin setting in any browser without issues. Games should feel complete releases rather than just updated betas. And no problems at all :-)
If people enjoy Origin, they should feel comfortable using it. But I believe they shouldn't turn one platform (like PC) into a simple rivalry with console-style competition due to game hub software. Since we're all on PC, let's keep our games on the service we prefer. It's a win for everyone because wider availability would boost their earnings.
It's true that EA has significantly improved its release process for completed titles.
Oh for sure they have gotten better. However and ill give an example here..... BF4's release was wow-full however BF Hardline's release was great. Thats more go to do with the fact that they seem to think that using the BF4 engine, the BF4 physics and the general BF4 gameplay skinning it to look like cops and robbers instead of soldiers will win over the public. LOL They literally skinned a game they have been working on for 4+ years, how could it not be a great release.
