Hey there, I'm facing some issues with those two capture tools. I really want to get high-quality footage but fraps isn't working well—slow and problematic even on my desktop. Dxtory and Mirillis Action seem like solid options. The main difference I notice is that Dxtory doesn't support streaming, while Mirillis Action does. Also, Mirillis seems to compress files, making it hard to change codecs. What do you guys use?
I rely on dxtory for capturing because it runs smoothly even with the most demanding games, and its performance remains solid. It offers many helpful features. For live streaming, I use OBS, though I’m not certain if dxtory can integrate with it. Additionally, I use bandicam to record the desktop.
The typical file size is what you receive. I don’t use a different codec unless specified.
That depends on the program I'm using. I don't really keep much track of the file size considering I delete the raw files after I'm done editing and rendering them. Dxtory with gaming does take up a lot of space for me initially, GBs only after a minute or two IIRC while Bandicam doesn't seem to ever go high in the file size. For dxtory, I use the default video codec (Dxtory Video Codec). IIRC I put it to low quality with compression so my HDD can keep up with 1080p60 video. Here's a video using dxtory (The game anyway). For bandicam, I use intel quick sync. The codec is H.264 with CBR 50kbps, X264 FourCC code, and 1 keyframe interval. I have those settings so I can video edit in Sony Vegas without issues. Here's a video using bandicam (when on desktop).
It’s popular because it offers superior compression and quality compared to the standard format.
Action! performed poorly a while ago, but it's much more straightforward than Dxtory.
I'm testing Dxtory. The main concern is the codec. A strong suggestion is the Lagarith Lossless format, but I'm seeking an even better option. With ample storage and a fast CPU, I aim for top-quality recordings without compromising game performance—raw, large files are fine if needed. I don't mind long render times for YouTube editing after using Sony Vegas.
I used lagarith while attempting a 60 fps recording. I gave up for some reason, though I’m not sure why. It probably slowed down due to my HDD. If you have an SSD, you should be able to handle the default codec at a much higher quality. I’d suggest testing both lagarith and the default to see what works best for you. Lagarith is free after all. Good luck!
