You're experiencing scaling issues with your 4K monitor on Linux Mint. It sounds like the resolution settings are causing blurriness. You might want to adjust your scaling preferences or check if your display settings are optimized for higher resolutions.

HiDPI works mainly on GNOME and offers the strongest support in the official Ubuntu version. KDE generally ranks lower, though it’s still usable; other options might cause issues unless things have improved. It’s a good idea to tell the person which Desktop Environment you’re using, as this can help more. You can also check the Arch Wiki link provided for more details, even though it’s not Arch itself.

I have two 4K monitors running Ubuntu, and everything functions smoothly. Previously, with just one HD and one 4K, scaling didn’t work well. For better monitor scaling, it seems you should switch to Wayland instead of Xorg—though I couldn’t find Wayland enabled on Mint yet. Wayland is available in Ubuntu 20.04, but you might need to turn it on first.

Gnome is updating its scaling support with recent changes in Wayland. It’s suggested to use the latest version 3.38 and connect to a Wayland session for optimal performance.
