Hi everyone I'm currently setting up my camera system at home. I want it to be on another network (Ip range) as my main network. The main issue is that to my garage I want both network but I have only one cable and one switch. Let me detail the actual infrastructure : I have a PfSense dedicated machine with one WAN, and 2 LAN : One is 10.10.10.1/24 which is my current main network (with DHCP, DNS, some NAT/port forward, ...), the second LAN is for the cameras with range 10.10.11.1/24 (No DHCP). I also have a proxmox server in 10.10.10.13 running a ubuntu (zoneminder) VM for the cameras (with dedicated NIC to 10.10.11.2). I have two physical switch to manage both network. PfSense, Proxmox and switches are all in a rack in my office upstairs. I have a dedicated copper link from my rack to the garage. I already have a mini consumer switch and an access point there which are running great (in the 10.10.10.x network). There come the point : I want to setup a camera in my garage My question is the follow : How can I wire all items on the same copper line ? Please notice none of my switch do have VLANS setup. And the one in the garage does not even have the option (unmanaged switch). Thanks Dergonic

Without VLANs, you’re left with manually assigning static IP addresses. If the camera needs to connect to the same default gateway or reach the internet, it won’t work unless you manage VLANs. That’s why VLANs are useful. To achieve what you want, if the camera must stay isolated on a network and can’t share a port with an unmanaged switch, you’ll likely need to route the line all the way back to a managed switch.
