Dual Boot Problems
Dual Boot Problems
I recently upgraded my setup. Before, I relied on a harddisk but didn’t want to move large amounts of old files onto my new NVME drive (Samsung 980 Pro with updated firmware). My intention was to use the NVME as the primary boot device and keep my old hard drive for extra storage. Since exams are coming up and I have many programs on my old drive, I didn’t want to delete it yet and planned to use the NVME for regular PC use while keeping the old drive for study sessions. This has led to some minor problems.
Issues: One day I tried playing Dota (which I installed on my hard drive because I didn’t need fast access) and realized it wasn’t showing up on my PC. I still see Dota files on my hard drive, so there must be some corruption. Immediately after, I restarted my PC and Windows ran an automatic fix for the disk.

I booted into the NVME and attempted to launch Valorant (installed on NVME). It logged me out unexpectedly—this isn’t the usual periodic logout. When I opened Chrome, it also logged me out, then reinstalled all my plugins when I signed back in. During this process, Discord auto-open appeared and displayed a “Discord is corrupt” message. I’ve been switching between drives while using them, which seems to cause problems.
Clarification: I know that after a fresh install, Windows won’t recognize apps from the previous setup. THIS ISN’T what’s happening here. I installed Dota on my old drive and was able to play it for a short time.
Also worth noting: When I reinstalled Windows after the fresh install, I had the original hard drive unplugged from the system, so it shouldn’t be related to the Windows update.
