Hello, I’m wondering if I’ll face problems with an i5 6500 and 3000 MHz DDR4 RAM. The CPU supports up to 2133 MHz, but I’m not sure if it will actually run at that speed. I noticed these are the lowest prices I saw locally.

Which RAM option would be better: G.Skill Value 2x8GB DDR4 at 2400 MHz CL15 Kit or G.Skill Aegis 2x8GB DDR4 at 3000 MHz CL16 Kit? Thanks!

They should function as expected. Choose any kit that has been verified for your motherboard (validation lists are available on the motherboard's support page).

The Aegis package offers reduced latency and increased bandwidth, making it preferable. However, achieving fast memory performance with a mid-range i5 remains possible. It's wise to prioritize saving money and opt for the 2400 model.

The shield costs a bit less, and if I upgrade my computer later, I'll get more RAM. When will DDR5 become available?

The release of DDR5 likely won’t affect your current purchases. We could begin seeing DDR5 options for consumers in 2022. How does your access to the used market look? Perhaps you might spot a reasonably priced DDR4 2400 on eBay. If buying used isn’t an option, consider purchasing the lowest-priced RAM available.
