There are some unusual behaviors with the laptop when an external USB storage device is connected. The performance varies greatly, from very slow navigation in Windows Explorer to bizarre interface issues. This situation ended with a system crash last night. I connected the drive for work and after unplugging it, the Explorer started acting oddly. After restarting the system, the BSOD appeared after roughly five minutes on the "Restarting" screen. I attached a minidump file in case anyone can assist in diagnosing the problem. Minidump attached.

PSU: make, model, wattage, age, condition (original to build, new, refurbished used).
Disk drive(s): make, model, capacity, current usage?
Consider using "dism" and "sfc /scannow" to locate and repair damaged files.

From the dump, this represents a power transition failure for a PnP device (0x9F argument 1 equals 4). The call stack prior to the bugcheck indicates that a PnP device was obtained exclusively, after which the system waited for the device to become available...
you should also update the laptop bios, and chipset drivers to the current version. (and any external usb drivers)
Some usb devices might also need a firmware update or driver update.
you might also disable sleep mode for the usb port. Or use a usb port that is supported directly by the CPU.
ie try one of the slower ports to see if it works.
good chance it is the drive but I have seen way too many cases where you get the same issue due to other bugs.
even simple bios settings like the usb port going to sleep and not responding to a wake up signal.
(turn off the sleep functions in bios or in windows to test)
