Driver issues when setting up a new graphics card
Hello everyone, I’m facing difficulties installing a new graphics card and suspect it’s related to driver or Windows problems. I bought a 3070 off eBay—knowing the risks—but it looks almost perfect, so I didn’t think much of it. I replaced my 2070 Super without much hesitation. After properly installing and connecting the card, I powered it on and saw a no-signal error. This likely wasn’t due to installation since the card turned on fully, including lights and heating up. I re-seated it several times and then tried using the built-in graphics (running a 10700k). Except for the GPU not showing in Device Manager and the occasional issues, everything else worked fine. After realizing my mistake, I downloaded the latest drivers, but things got strange. Someone told me Windows 10 is broken and that this could be causing the Nvidia installer to report incompatibility. The relevant graphics card didn’t appear in Device Manager. Interestingly, this isn’t a hardware problem because when I reinstalled my old card, similar issues kept happening—no compatibility warnings, no errors in Device Manager, etc. My Windows is definitely 64-bit, but the DirectX diagnostic shows a 32-bit display mode. I’ve searched extensively for a fix, but nothing seems to help. If anyone has any advice or insights, it would be greatly appreciated.
It looks like the GPU might be faulty. No Windows update seems to resolve the issue of detecting a GPU. It could be a mining GPU with a custom BIOS—check it and replace it with the proper version if needed.
You can obtain a clean vBIOS from reputable sources such as official manufacturer websites or trusted third-party vendors. Installing it safely requires backing up your current BIOS, using proper tools, and following the manufacturer’s installation guide to avoid conflicts with other hardware. To confirm the issue, compare your system specs and BIOS version before and after installation. A different card may not be affected if the BIOS is compatible with its firmware.
The GPU isn't showing up, which means it's not being recognized. Unless it's properly installed or the connections aren't secure, this card won't work. If you paid via PayPal, file a dispute and request a refund. Avoid flashing the BIOS settings, as doing so could jeopardize your claim. The lack of detection clearly points to a defective product.
It's quite unusual. I've reached out to the seller and a nearby repair service. Let's check what they have to say. Appreciate all the responses so far. No further action needed at this time.
