You're just starting with Linux and using VanillaOS 2 Orchid. Your Epson ES-50 scanner isn't working with the official Flatpack drivers or the unofficial ones you've tried. The error message appears when you scan, and you're looking for a Sane driver solution. The Document Scanner app from GNOME detects your Brother printer driver but not the Epson scanner. Installing sane-backends hasn't helped either. Consider checking the official Epson support site or community forums for the correct scanner drivers.

Sorry for the confusion, but I was also trying to understand this issue. I'm using Fedora, and Flatpak isn't compatible with me. I had to download the official drivers from the provided link. Since you mentioned VanillaOS, it seems like a Debian/Ubuntu-based system, so the .deb packages should be functional.
