Your printer functions well on your old machine but encounters issues when connected to the new one. The automatic update feature is active, yet installation fails. You've already attempted manual downloads, but the process redirects you to a prompt to plug in the device and wait for updates. Once connected, it doesn't proceed further. For a Brother Inkjet MFC J2 series printer, try restarting both devices, ensuring the printer is powered on and the computer is ready. If problems persist, check the driver installation folder or contact support for troubleshooting.

Remove any driver software, disconnect the printer, and take it out of the device manager. Restart the PC and then attempt the driver installation again. It’s better to get it from here to confirm it works: http://support.brother.com/g/b/productse...content=dl. Only connect the printer via USB after the installer prompts. For some odd reason, older printers seem particularly problematic with this process.

Remove all installed drivers and then access the Windows printer settings console. On the drivers page, you might need to click the update button to download additional drivers. There should be an option to install the right one, which I found successful later.

That’s essentially what I did. Complete the manual removal, download the newest release, install it, and connect only once more. That’s exactly how I got an HP printer up and running. It worked even back when we were using XP.

It functioned well on my older XP setup, but I miss XP.
