Drive issue occurs following CPU swap, requires restoration.
Hi, I have a problem with my encrypted drive. I encrypted an external HDD using BitLocker (on Windows 10 Pro). I switched the CPU from a 9900K to a 9900KS without realizing encryption depended on the processor. I didn’t reset the keys and didn’t see any warning when I restarted. After that, the drive showed up as unformatted in Windows. When I tried swapping back the CPU, nothing changed, so I’m stuck with the KS version. I suspect it won’t help if I go back to the original configuration. I’ve used several recovery tools claiming to work on encrypted drives, but all failed except one—Haselo Data Recovery—which asked for a 48-digit key and managed to identify it (using both correct and incorrect keys). However, it gave incorrect results and only showed raw flash files. The drive’s total size is 3TB, but Windows sees it as a fat16 partition of about 350GB plus a raw partition for the rest. There are roughly 750GB of encrypted data on it. In short, Windows doesn’t recognize the drive as a BitLocker-protected one; some cheap programs treat it as two partitions—one fat16 and one raw. I left the drive unchanged (just did scans, no damage), still have the password (since Windows can’t see it as BitLocker), and possess the 48-digit key. I still have the original CPU but it’s not currently accessible. Can someone assist? Is a better recovery tool or a hardware solution needed? I’m open to paying for whatever it takes.
If necessary, try to forward it to DriveSavers when other options fail https://drivesaversdatarecovery.com/
