DRAM problem on Z270 board, no updates, no more choices...
Attempting to revitalize my existing main components, which have mostly been exposed for some time, I was initially doubtful about their functionality. After using them in a recent project, I still didn’t see the DRAM failure indicator light turn on. Here’s what I’ve tried: swapped the RAM, removed one DIMM and tried another slot, rebooted multiple times—still no success. I also used standard DDR4 modules in my current machine but got the same issue. The CPU cooler was replaced as some guides suggest Z270 boards can be delicate, but that didn’t help. I removed the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS, left it out for five minutes, then reinserted it—still no boot. I even tried rubbing the connectors with rubber (just in case). I’ve attached photos and a video of the setup, along with the EZ Debug LEDs showing DRAM errors. It seems the lights flash CPU, then DRAM, and stay on DRAM briefly before resetting. According to the manual, this indicates a RAM problem. I’m not sure if it’s a motherboard fault or something else. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. Consider the first option. If it fails, move to the second. Only the initial two should apply here—they’re the top choices. Most devices won’t respond with just one in the secondary slot.
I don't believe this would succeed, but given that the CPU communicates with the DRAM, it makes sense. Even so, the DRAM indicators are unmistakably pointing to a problem. I’ll try it and report back on what happens.
If you scanned the code it would likely show POST code 55 pointing to a RAM issue. A possible cause could be taking out the CPU and gently inspecting the pins to ensure they haven’t shifted slightly from their original position inside the socket. Focus on a cluster of pin tips—any that don’t match the surrounding ones might be the culprit. The best approach is to use a magnifying glass or light source to examine the pins closely. If you spot one that’s misaligned, realign it carefully and reinstall the CPU. This should resolve the problem, but keep track of which pin was affected for future reference if you swap CPUs later. I’ve experienced this firsthand with a RAM error caused by a shifted pin.
