DPI vs sensitivity in CS:GO?

Some colleagues encouraged me to try CS:GO, but we talked about sensitivity and DPI. It turns out the settings I use for normal games don’t apply to CS:GO. I usually set my mouse to 1450 DPI and tweak the sensitivity so a small movement gives a big change—usually around 180 at sensitivity 2 or 3. This raises the question: what’s the difference between DPI and sensitivity? How much does a change from 800 DPI/1 sens affect the feel compared to 400 DPI/2 sens? I’m currently at 600 DPI and 2.33 sens, which works well for me without being too slow. I’ll have to adapt my habits and might need to train different muscle memory. Also, why do people play at lower resolutions? What benefits does that offer? Since I’m not a professional, I don’t plan to compete much, so why would anyone change my setup?

1080p at 144Hz sets the standard for top hardware since it ensures smooth performance without lag or stutter during intense gameplay, keeping you ahead.

1080p and 144hz monitors from BenQ and Asus are commonly suggested by experts. A 400dpi/2sens setup matches an 800dpi/1sens configuration. Professional sensitivity usually ranges from 400 to 1.5-3.5, with some exceptions. I’ll update this post with a spreadsheet shortly. Also, lower sensitivity can be beneficial. Switching from 1000dpi/3sens to 400/3.25 improved my experience significantly after adjustment.

Raw input is an option that adds extra processing to the game, which might affect settings like sensitivity and DPI. It’s likely there’s a reason for using 400/2 instead of other values to maintain consistency. With a 1440p display, your DPI might need adjustment to match the resolution properly.

Raw input bypasses all other inputs; it handles Windows sensitivity issues, allowing direct mouse control. The 400/[sensitivity] setting likely improves precision instead of causing erratic mouse actions. No, you shouldn't need this.

I also reduced mine from 14 to 8 and now I get headshots more easily.

It seems strange that my performance stays consistent across different settings. I can switch between ultra and low, 1440p and 600p, yet the frames remain the same. There must be something affecting my setup. Afterburner indicates a significant drop in GPU usage, but the numbers don’t change.

It seems the program relies a lot on CPU power. Running it with -threads 4 or more could improve performance.

It didn't make much difference. I also have multicore rendering turned on. Using a 4790k should help increase frame rate. Benchmarks from YouTube indicate similar results.

YouTube performance standards for CS? CS tends to be a tough/inefficient game. You might want to check out the Steam community page for details.
