Yeah the whole bit and byte is confusing but my actually download speed is 580kbs as speed test says about 5.5mb, and steam is currently downloading at 40kbs and i just dont know why

5.5mbps equals 5500kbps and 687KB per second, which means a 580KB transfer is reasonable—just 100 KB short but still acceptable. Remember, one byte is eight bits, so no confusion there. Even basic math is simpler than figuring out bit conversions.

I understand the situation, but it still doesn't clarify the difference in download numbers. My recent activity was around 580kbs, yet Steam only reached 50kbs. On BitTorrent I could download at 550kbs on the same machine while streaming a 1080p video on YouTube, but Steam never exceeded 100kbs.
