You're thinking about installing Windows on a budget and using someone else's computer. It sounds like you want to customize the background and remove the watermark when you switch to full screen. Yes, that's possible—some users change the background and remove the watermark in certain settings. However, whether it works depends on the specific software or settings you're using. Also, full-screen mode might affect how the watermark appears, but it's not guaranteed to disappear completely.

On Windows 7 you'd see a black background with a warning about the software not being activated. Swapping backgrounds would reset everything after about half an hour. I didn't see much else, but I prefer straightforward designs. Also, I'm not sure if updates or AI features would work.

You might use Windows for 30 days without activating it. Also, Windows 10 keys are available for as low as $20 on various websites.

Windows 10 works continuously without needing activation. You only see the "Activate Windows" prompt at the bottom right screen.

The activation window remains open until you press the button to close it.

It's clear. I only see it when the screen is off, but even then it's not very obvious.

Your birthday is coming up in three months, so you can turn it on then.

TLDR can you skip Windows activation? Yes, technically you’re allowed but legally you should purchase a license. Buying keys online is cheap, but it’s mostly just a temporary fix—using a key doesn’t grant a license and can lead to issues later. Microsoft offers some flexibility with Windows 10, but there’s no tech penalty beyond a watermark. You won’t be able to change your favorite background picture. To get free or cheap Windows, consider school programs, charities, or promotional events.
