I'm looking for a new router and found a Xiaomi model. It seems affordable and offers similar features to premium devices. My main worry is privacy—do they collect my user information? I currently use a D-Link router, which I suspect isn't working well or is outdated. The coverage in my area is limited, and Asus routers are more reliable but cost more. I'm open to other suggestions or brands if you can help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Amazon Echo and Google Home seem connected, but why would a company want their router to monitor your activities?

It's a Chinese company and that means it is controlled by the Chinese government to an extent. I am worried about being my data logged and shared with third parties such as the Chinese government. Obviously there is no proof right now and I tried looking online but nothing came up.

Xiaomi offers its own take on the Google octopus, which makes sense since it might appear as a sign-in feature for your MI router. You could easily use it without noticing, but consider if you'd be comfortable with that version instead.

Some routers now include built-in voice assistants like the Nest AC2200 Mesh-WIFI System Router, offering improved Wi-Fi and voice control options throughout your smart home. For privacy worries, a hardware mute button lets you disable the assistant until you turn it back on. The D-Link DIR-842 is a solid choice; verify your router settings to avoid speed restrictions during updates. Reboot your modem/router and check for overheating—gently move it to maintain optimal temperature. If signal strength drops beyond the router, adding Wi-Fi extenders can help. A reliable and affordable extender is available here: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/tp-link-ac1...Id=6295316

They'll likely draw the line when integration becomes unavoidable and irreversibly impacts their values.

It might be overheating, not the router. I'll check that. For the range extender, I installed it via Wi-Fi instead of a wired connection since it affects the house's appearance. Thanks for the tip!
