I run some games as an example and most of the time the site indicated that of all components my CPU is most lacking. I have been under the impression that GPU and Memory are the main components for gaming capabilities, hence my question. My specs: MB: GA 990FXA UD3 PSU: TS XFX 650 w Gold GPU: Sapphire HD 7950 (the one with the 2 fans) CPU: 3.33 gigahertz AMD FX -6100 Six-Core RAM: 12gb DDR 1600Mhz

The CPU you have right now was never meant to handle gaming well, let alone today. Your GPU is also pretty outdated already. It might still run older games fine, but check below for a better idea. The best way I can tell you is to look at the minimum and recommended specs for that specific game on the website where it comes from.

Right now, your CPU won't have been a great choice for gaming even back when it was new. And your graphics card has gotten really old too. Back then, this setup might work okay for running older games, but check below to see what you can actually do. To get the best idea, just go look at the game's website and find out the lowest and highest requirements there.

I'd say what's really needed is usually not the exact specs on the app page. What matters more is whether the developer says they will support that version. If you say you need an i7-7700K, but the app only needs an i5-8400, then even if your CPU works perfectly for them, chances are they won't help you if you claim a different one. Sometimes apps do list specific features needed. But you can still check how your machine compares to that list, though doing that research takes a lot of time and effort.
