This question probably feels awkward to ask. I have never really cared why I can't use the Microsoft Scan app or scan from a photo app on my HP Officejet Pro 8600. I used to be able to use the "HP Scan and Capture" app. But this stopped working last week after a Windows Update (that is probably the real cause because nothing else changed, even older versions of clients still work).

1.) What printers or scanners are supported by the native Windows Scan app? Or can third-party apps work with it?
2.) Is there any chance to get scanning to work again using another app for my 8600?

Thanks. I'm going to try it. But in general, I'm curious about how the printer driver app works with scans on a Windows client. Usually, most hardware and software match up easily, but printers (like scanners) seem to be a bit different too. Also, I want to make sure what to look for when buying new printers next time.
