Hi everyone,
I own an older computer (built around 2015/2016) that I typically use for work (documents and internet) and for gaming when my younger brother uses the PS5. The machine has been sitting idle in my parent's home for about a year, being powered on only every two to three months during visits to check everything was up to date. Two weeks ago I finally brought it back into my new home and quickly encountered problems with my GPU, which was a GTX 660 Ti.

After hearing the beeps and noticing the fans spinning wildly every time I restarted it, I decided to replace the GPU. I purchased an EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 SC on eBay. The seller assured me everything would be fine.

Yesterday it arrived. I removed the old drivers, reinstalled them in the same PCIe slot, and encountered numerous issues. I then moved it to a different PCIe slot, which allowed me to install the new drivers and resolve the problems.

Today I tried playing Honkai Star Rail and Genshin Impact—both worked perfectly with my previous setup—but both crashed after just half a minute, sometimes the whole GPU would fail, forcing me to hard boot the PC again.

Other components:
- CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-6400 @ 2.70GHz
- RAM: 8GB DDR3
- Storage: HDD 1TB + SSD 250 GB
- Power supply: ThermalTake SmartSE 630W

Do you have another PSU to test with? That is a horrifyingly low-quality PSU and at this point, a decade-old horrifyingly low-quality PSU.

I have a 700W unit I can test, but I'm unsure of<|pad|>'s brand or model.

If you have a mechanical background and feel confident, I’d go ahead and refresh the thermal paste and pads. If you do, check the pads after opening her up—if they’re still in good condition, just swap them out. You’ll be able to tell.

Star Rail and Genshin are not overly demanding titles, and would function well even with a GT 1030 GDDR5. The PC's RAM and CPU are sufficient for these games as well. It seems the issue might lie with the power supply unit. Consider looking for a better PSU, which should likely resolve the problem.
