Does the CPU fit your PC and is it worth purchasing?
Hi everyone! I own an old HP Compaq 6005 Pro SFF desktop. Most parts are original, but I need a specific Athlon 3000G Box with 2 cores and Vega 3 graphics. My current CPU is a Phenom X4 II B95 with 4 cores. Would upgrading be worthwhile? Also, does the motherboard and 240W PSU support this new CPU? Thanks for your help!
the psu wouldn't cause a problem with that cpu... but the socket would be an issue. Why upgrade the cpu specifically? The b95 is reportedly the strongest chip available for that system according to the hp site. I’m aware there’s a b97 model with around 200Hz higher clocks, though I’m not sure if it’s compatible. You might also consider a phenom ii x6 1090t, but I doubt the bios would accept it and the machine would start up properly. I own the same setup and would try it if I could locate a chip under 20 dollars—those usually cost about 100, and it’s quite costly to test it.
The Vega 3 really stood out to me. My integrated graphics are outdated, and I couldn't find many options that fit a 240W power supply. I believed it could improve the PC for some mid-range gaming. Since I'm not very experienced with building PCs, I came here looking for advice.
Consider a modest GT1030, GTX 1050, GTX 1050 Ti or GTX 1650... My current setup has a GT430 and it works fine for some YouTube and light emulator games. I was thinking about getting a GT1030 but the GTX1650 caught my attention and some folks said it's fine with the PSU in the system. I'm just planning to watch if they release a low profile, low power GPU next year.
