: Does PC suddenly restart when it hits BIOS?
I didn't do that before, but now I know it has the newest software. I moved my M2 chip to a new spot on the board and will wait to see if it works better.
Good luck! Most of these games should work fine. However, I recommend using the M2_1 option first because it talks directly to your CPU while the other slots depend on the chipset. This setup gives you better performance from your processor.
Well, we are already two whole days later and the problem came back, so changing the slot didn't help. Usually this happens when you have been out of the house for hours with no activity. Since none of these crashes create a log file (shown by Event Viewer as "Dump file creation failed due to error during dump creation"), my next guess is to just replace the drive itself even though all diagnostics say it's working perfectly and it is brand new... unless someone has another idea. This is going to cost a lot for those M2 drives.
I am back with some new information! I have been trying to sleep my computer when I don't need it running, and the problem only shows up when the machine is idle. So far, this computer has never restarted without the hard drive being detected while in sleep mode. This tells me that it's not a power issue because electricity is either on or off - if the power were cut during sleep mode, the computer shouldn't wake up anyway.
This means it must be either the M2 or the Motherboard almost certainly. If I'm way off track please let me know - I feel like I'm trying to guess too hard a little bit.
I am looking into my options too. When you are back at your computer, do you still see the old BIOS sitting there? Maybe try another SSD or motherboard if everything else works fine. Just a tip: power down completely when going away for days. That feels safer and better.
Sometimes this happens. I can leave my computer on for two or three days without a problem, but after eating lunch and coming back an hour later, it shows up as BIOS instead of the usual screen. There isn't any clear pattern to this. I've tried turning in sleep mode because electricity doesn't care if you're asleep or awake. If the power is cut, everything shuts down no matter what program is running. So far, it has never shown up as BIOS while sleeping. This isn't a perfect fix though, and using remote access isn't possible anymore.
I really don't think the problem is about how much I'm sleeping or waking up on. Whether it's my motherboard or that 990 Pro drive, taking out an SSD would be the easiest thing to do first. Do you have a spare hard drive to try this with? Just take out the SSD for a bit while we test it.
Most drives are easy to fix if you need one, so that's the best way to check things out. I'm talking about an old mechanical drive with no cost, not buying new stuff right now. Basically, I was thinking of taking it apart and seeing what's inside just to see where we stand.
Yeah, well, my old mechanical drive finally gave up the ghost, and together with some other problems, that's exactly how things happened to make this build necessary. I submitted an RMA request to Samsung today. They told me I could just buy a new drive, copy over this one onto it, and send back the used drive when the RMA finishes. You know, I'm basically giving them a few hundred dollars as a loan but it's better than nothing. One good thing is that if the problem keeps coming up with a fresh drive, then my motherboard might be the next target... Once this whole mess gets sorted out, I'll update you soon, so maybe we'll see each other in a few weeks. Or perhaps never! Maybe this repair will finally work?
